ʻŌlelo Noʻeau from the Hawaiian Nation
This doctoral research amplified the voices of Hawaiian women leaders on the island of Kauaʻi on issues of land, sovereignty, and the next generation. It began by examining issues around Hawaiian food sovereignty, including health-related food disparities; it evolved to explore loss of land tenure as well as the interlocking issues facing the next generation.
Working under a team of Jewish-Arab principals, including the 1st female Bedouin PhD, we analyzed the economic activity of Bedouin women in the Negev Desert. We wanted to understand how this demographic was transitioning from a sheep economy, to a cash one, looking also at the next generation. The results of our research informed gov't policy.
